Overview of Base Maintenance

What is Base Maintenance?

Base maintenance is also known as heavy maintenance, and is more extensive than line maintenance. It's usually performed at scheduled intervals or between overhauls in the aircraft's operational life, and involves more complex tasks, such as major repairs, structural inspections, and component replacements. Base maintenance is often conducted in a dedicated maintenance facility or hangar, and requires special equipment that's not normally available at a line maintenance facility.

Base Maintenance may include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Servicing: Performing servicing tasks that can be scheduled or not scheduled such as procedures to adjust, align, calibrate, or inspect, etc.
