Safety conditions

MAKE SURE TO OBEY ALL THE GREASE LUBRICATION PRACTICES BEFORE YOU LUBRICATE THE COMPONENT WITH GREASE. IF NOT, DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENT CAN OCCUR.

Procedure

DO NOT APPLY THE GREASE QUICKLY. APPLY THE GREASE QUICKLY CAN CAUSE PRESSURIZATION OF THE GREASE CAVITIES AND THAT CAN RESULT IN: PUSHING THE GREASE THROUGH THE SEAL, POPPING OR PUSHING OUT THE SEALS, DAMAGE TO THE SEALS, OR OTHER UNWANTED EFFECTS.

  1. Lubricate the duplex bearing of the swashplate and support assembly as follows:

    1. On the outer ring assembly slowly put grease (C-172) into the lubrication fitting, with a grease gun, until all of the old grease is fully replaced. Collect and discard the old grease when it comes out of the bottom of the duplex bearing.

    2. Turn the outer ring assembly 90°.

    3. Slowly put grease (C-172) into the lubrication fitting, with a grease gun, until all of the old grease is fully replaced. Collect and discard the old grease when it comes out of the bottom of the duplex bearing.

    4. Turn the outer ring assembly 90°.

    5. Slowly put grease (C-172) into the lubrication fitting, with a grease gun, until all of the old grease is fully replaced. Collect and discard the old grease when it comes out of the bottom of the duplex bearing.

    6. Turn the outer ring assembly 90°.

    7. Slowly put grease (C-172) into the lubrication fitting, with a grease gun, until all of the old grease is fully replaced. Collect and discard the old grease when it comes out of the bottom of the duplex bearing.

    8. To prevent contamination of the Teflon lined bearings, remove the grease from the duplex bearing, from all the external surfaces, and from the upper surfaces of the swashplate and the pivot sleeve.

    9. If the grease went through the upper seal and onto the ball of the pivot sleeve, the upper seal is damaged or was installed backward. Remove and repair the swashplate.
