Doors

The doors permit the operator and the passengers to enter and exit the helicopter, to load and unload cargo and baggage, to get access to servicing and maintenance points, and also gives a warning when a door is not properly closed. They consist of the components that follow:

Passenger/crew doors

The passenger/crew doors permit the operator and passengers to enter and exit the cockpit and cabin. They consist of the doors that follow:

Left crew door

The left crew door is a composite-aluminum alloy door assembly. It is located on the left side of the fuselage and gives access to the cockpit. It has two hinges at the forward end and a latch mechanism that operates from the inside and the outside.

Right crew door

The right crew door is a composite-aluminum alloy door assembly. It is located on the right side of the fuselage and gives access to the cockpit. It has two hinges at the forward end and a latch mechanism that operates from the inside and the outside.

Clamshell door

The clamshell door is a composite-aluminum alloy door assembly. It is located on the left side of the fuselage and gives access to the cabin. It has two hinges at the aft end and a latch mechanism that operates from the inside. It can be opened when the left crew door is open.

Passenger/crew doors - Operation

Operating the handles inside and outside of the left crew door disengages the latch pins from the top and bottom strikers and lets you open the left crew door from the clamshell door striker plate.

Operating the handles inside and outside of the right crew door disengages the latch pins from the top and bottom strikers and lets you open the right crew door from the door post striker plate.

With the left crew door open, operating the handle inside of the clamshell door disengages the latch pins from the top and bottom striker plates and lets you open the clamshell door from the door post striker plate.

Cargo door

The cargo door gives access to the baggage compartment and lets you load and unload baggage and cargo. It consists of the baggage compartment door.

The baggage compartment door is a bonded composite assembly with two push button latches at the aft end and two aluminum hinges at the forward end. It is located on the right side of the fuselage. It gives access to the baggage compartment and protects its content in flight.

Cargo door - Operation

The forward push buttons of the two latches release them and permit to open the baggage compartment door.

To close the baggage compartment door, it is pushed shut and pushing the aft push buttons of the latches engages them.

Service doors

The service doors give the operator access to areas to do the required servicing and maintenance activities. They consist of the fuel filler access door, the electrical compartment door and aft body lower access door.

Fuel filler access door

The fuel filler access door is a composite assembly with a piano type hinge at the forward end and two quarter-turn fasteners at the aft. It is located on the left side of the fuselage and gives access to the fuel filler port and the fuel tank drain.

Electrical compartment door

The electrical compartment door is a composite assembly with a piano type hinge at the forward end and two quarter-turn fasteners at the aft end. It is located on the right side of the fuselage and gives access to the electrical distribution equipment.

Aft body lower access door

The aft body lower access door is a composite assembly with a piano type hinge at the top end and one quarter-turn fastener at the bottom end. It is located on the lower right aft fuselage and gives access to the external power receptacle.

Service doors - Operation

Turning the two quarter-turn fasteners counterclockwise lets you open the fuel filler access door to gain access to the fuel filler port and the fuel tank drain. It opens forward, out of the way of servicing or maintenance activity. It closes toward the aft and, turning the two quarter-turn fasteners clockwise, secures it.

Turning the two quarter-turn fasteners counterclockwise lets you open the electrical compartment door to gain access to the electrical equipment. It opens forward, out of the way of servicing or maintenance activity. It closes toward the back and, turning the two quarter-turn fasteners clockwise, secures it.

Turning the quarter turn fastener counterclockwise lets you open the aft body lower access door to gain access to the external power receptacle. It opens upward and closes downward and turning the quarter-turn fastener clockwise secures it.

Door warning

The door warning warns the operator when the baggage compartment door is not properly closed. It consists of the baggage compartment light micro-switch.

The baggage-compartment light micro-switch is referred to as the micro switch in this paragraph.

The micro switch is installed on the aft post of the baggage compartment door. It is a Double Pole, Double Throw (DPDT) micro switch that controls the baggage compartment light and the Crew Alerting System (CAS) indication through the open or closed position of the baggage compartment door. The micro switch uses a roller lever actuator to sense the position of the door.

The baggage compartment lighting system is energized with 28 volts DC from the MAIN bus and can be isolated with the BAG LT circuit breaker. When the baggage door is open, the following occur:

  • One set of contacts in the micro switch close and supply 28 volts DC to the baggage compartment light for the light to come on.

  • The other set of contacts in the micro switch open and no longer apply a ground to the Integrated Avionics Unit (GIA 63H) for the BAGGAGE DOOR caution message to come on.

When the baggage door is closed, the following occur:

  • One set of contacts in the micro switch open and no longer supply 28 volts DC to the baggage compartment light for the light to go off.

  • The other set of contacts in the micro switch close and apply a ground to the Integrated Avionics Unit (GIA 63H) for the BAGGAGE DOOR caution message to go off.
