Fire Protection (Fire Extinguishing)

To provide for means of fire extinguishing inside the cabin or aid in safely evacuating the aircraft, a fire extinguisher is mounted on the floor between the pilot and co-pilot seats aft of the cabin pedestal.

Fire extinguisher

The fire extinguisher is portable and disposable, and is secured with a quick release latch. It is filled with 0.88 pounds (0.40 kg) of Halon extinguishing agent. The gross weight of the fully charged extinguisher is 1.2 pounds (0.530 kg). It has a Underwriters Laboratories (UL) rating 2B-C.

Operation

To operate the extinguisher, first remove it from its support bracket by releasing the clamp. Then pull out the safety pin from the top of the extinguisher, aim at the base of the fire, press trigger to start discharging the extinguishing agent, and sweep the extinguisher from side to side at the base of the fire. The extinguisher will discharge its contents completely in 10 to 12 seconds.
