Procedure

To remove the filter element, do as follows:

  1. Remove and discard the lockwire between the filter body and the filter bowl.

  2. Remove the filter bowl from the filter body.

  3. Remove and discard the packings and the retainer.

  4. Remove the filter element from the filter bowl.

  5. Visually examine the filter element for metal particles.

  6. If filter element has damage, discard the filter element.

To clean the filter element, do as follows:

DO NOT USE ALCOHOL ON THE HYDRAULIC COMPONENTS. ALCOHOL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE COMPONENTS.

Scribe an X on the element bottom end to show each cleaning event.

  1. The filter element can be cleaned a maximum of three times before discarding. The element may be cleaned with any one of the solutions that follows:

    • Hydraulic fluid (C-072)

    • Safety solvent (C-319) or equivalent

    • Turbine fuel (C-003)

    • Solvent (C-389)

    • 0.5% of Cleaning compound (C-318) in filtered water. Backflush with water.

  2. Put the element in one of the approved solvents and mix it properly.

  3. Backflush the element with the same type of solvent used in Step 2.2. Solvent/air mixture can be used. Backflush pressure to be 10 to 15 PSIG (69 to 103 kPa).

  4. Dry the element with dry filtered air at 50 to 60 psi (345 to 414 kPa).

To install the filter element (6), do as follows:

  1. Apply a layer of Hydraulic fluid (C-072) to the new Packing (M83461/1-011).

  2. Install the Packing (M83461/1-011) on the new filter element (206-076-034-003).

  3. Install the filter element (206-076-034-003) in the filter bowl.

  4. Apply a layer of Hydraulic fluid (C-072) to the Retainer (MS28774-211) and the Packing (M83461/1-211).

  5. Install the Retainer (MS28774-211) and the Packing (M83461/1-211) on the filter bowl.

  6. Install the filter bowl on the filter body.

  7. Torque the filter bowl 20 to 60 inch-pounds (2.26 to 6.77 Nm).

Make sure there is a minimum of 1 inch clearance between the oil filter bowl and the transmission oil tube.

  1. Safety the filter bowl to the filter body with Lockwire (C-405).
