Safety conditions

YOU CANNOT USE THE EROSION TAPE ON ONLY ONE OF THE TWO BLADES OR PROBLEMS WITH THE BALANCE OF THE BLADES CAN OCCUR.

The use of the erosion tape on the blade is not mandatory.

Procedure

The best temperature to remove the old erosion tape (C-557) from the blade is 60°F to 120°F (14°C to 49°C).

  1. Pull the old erosion tape (C-557) at a moderate speed at a perpendicular angle of 90° with the blade.

  2. Remove the adhesive that transfers to the blade surface as follows:

    1. For minor adhesive transfer, rub the adhesive into a ball with a finger and wipe it off.

    2. For major adhesive transfer, clean with a cheesecloth (C-486) moist with aliphatic naphtha (C-305).

    3. For hard adhesive, you can use a plastic scraper or carefully sand the surface with 220 or 240 grit abrasive cloth or paper (C-406).

  3. Prepare the surface of the blade (1) that will receive the new erosion tape (C-557) as follows:

    1. Clean the surface with a clean cloth (C-516) moist with isopropyl alcohol (C-385).

    2. Immediately clean the surface dry with a clean cloth (C-516).

    3. Carefully sand the surface horizontally with 220 or 240 grit abrasive cloth or paper (C-406).

    4. Clean the surface with a clean cloth (C-516) moist with isopropyl alcohol (C-385) until no dust particles remain.

    5. Immediately clean the surface dry with a clean cloth (C-516).

    6. Put marks on the surface of the blade (1), with a nonpermanent pen, at the correct position for the erosion tape (C-557) installation.

    7. Apply tape (C-434) around the marked area of the blade (1).

    8. Apply a thin and constant coat of adhesive promoter (C-558) on the surface of the blade (1).

    9. Let the adhesive promoter (C-558) dry for a minimum of 5 minutes.

    10. Remove the tape (C-434) from the blade (1).

  4. Cut four 20-inch (508-mm) sections of erosion tape (C-557).

  5. Remove half of the liner from the adhesive side of the erosion tape (C-557) on one of the four sections.

  6. Put the section of the erosion tape (C-557) in position on the blade (1) and press on the surface with a finger.

  7. Slide a plastic squeegee from the leading edge to the trailing edge of the blade.

  8. Remove the second half of the liner of the erosion tape (C-557).

  9. Put the erosion tape (C-557) in position on the blade (1) and press on the surface with fingers.

  10. Slide a plastic squeegee from the leading edge to the trailing edge of the blade.

  11. Repeat Step 5. through Step 10. for the three other sections of the erosion tape (C-557).

  12. Visually examine the erosion tape (C-557) after the installation and make sure that there are no air bubbles under it or any defects on the surface.
